The South Tyrolean Wine Museum in Kaltern , as part of the South Tyrolean regional museums, provides information about the history and traditional techniques of the South Tyrolean wine-growing region .

history

In 1953 the South Tyrolean Wine Museum Association was founded , with the aim of setting up just such an institution. As early as 1955, the president of the association, Walther Amonn , was able to open the museum at Ringberg Castle on Lake Kalterer in the south of South Tyrol . In 1983 the association disbanded and handed over the management of the museum to the South Tyrolean provincial administration. In 1986 it moved to the nursing home with the former tenth cellar of the sovereign estate in the village center of Kaltern im Überetsch . The Wine Museum has been part of the South Tyrolean State Museums since 2003.

exhibition

The permanent exhibition deals with work and customs in South Tyrolean viticulture . The figure of the Saltner , work utensils and techniques, wine, fermentation barrels and other containers and traditional vineyard work are shown, as well as the reception of viticulture in religious folk art .

In front of the museum is a vineyard in which rare grape varieties are grown.
