The Sandoval County is a county in the northern part of the state of New Mexico to the United States . It has 89,908 inhabitants (as of 2000). The county seat is in Bernalillo .

geography

The county is located in central northwest New Mexico and has an area of ​​9,620; 13 square kilometers (0.13 percent) of this is water. Sights include Bandelier National Monument , Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument , Coronado State Park, and Fenton Lake State Park . In the County parts protrude the national forests Santa Fe National Forest and Cibola National Forest . The county had 30,126 people as of the 2000 census . There were 11,134 households and 7,537 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 56.22% White, 0.78% African American, 1.82% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, and 36.21% other races Groups; 4.33% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 77.96% of the population.

Of the 11,134 households, 34.60% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 44.50% were married couples living together, 16.40% were single mothers. 32.30% were not families. 26.60% are single households and 8.20% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.10 people.
