The Bernalillo County is a county in the state of New Mexico to the United States . The county seat is Albuquerque .

geography

The county's main rivers are the Rio Grande and the Rio Puerco , which flows into the San Juan River after the county border . There are 4 Indian reservations in the county: The reservations of the Pueblo Indians of the Isleta (approx. 853 km²), the Laguna (approx. 2.00 km²) and the Sandia (approx. 101.11 km²) as well as a reservation of the Navajo , the Tohajiilee Indian Reservation (approx. 314.91 km², formerly: Cañoncito Band of Navajos , part of the Navajo Nation Reservation ).

The county covers an area of ​​3,027 km²; 7 square kilometers (0.22 percent) of this is water. The county borders the counties in a clockwise direction: Sandoval County , Santa Fe County , Torrance County , Valencia County, and Cibola County .

As of the 2000 census , the county had 556,678 people. There were 220,936 households and 141,178 families. The population density was 184 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 70.75% White, 2.77% African American, 4.16% Native American, 1.93% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, and 16.07% other races Groups; 4.22% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 41.96% of the population.

Of the 220,936 households, 31.40% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 46.00% were married couples living together, 12.90% were single mothers. 36.10% were not families. 28.50% were single households and 7.90% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.06.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.30% of residents under 18 years of age, 10.30% between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.40% between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.40% between 45 and 64 years of age 11.50% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 95.50 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 92.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 38,788 , and the median income for a family is $ 46,613. Males had a median income of $ 33,720 versus $ 26,318 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,790. 13.70% of the population and 10.20% of families are below the poverty line. 17.90% of these were under 18 years of age and 9.10% were 65 years of age or older.
