Valencia County is a county in the state of New Mexico in the United States . The county has 76,569 residents. The county seat is in Los Lunas .

The county is located slightly northwest of the geographic center of New Mexico and has a total area of 2,765 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers (0.05 percent) are water. The county in New Mexico is bordered clockwise by the counties: Bernalillo County , Torrance County , Socorro County, and Cibola County .

history

One location has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the Zuni-Cibola Complex archaeological site . A total of 21 buildings and sites in the county are registered on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 17, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , the county had 66,152 people. There were 22,681 households and 17,350 families. The population density was 24 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 66.51% White, 1.27% African American, 3.30% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, and 23.93% other races Groups; 4.55% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 54.98% of the population.

Of the 22,681 households, 39.60% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.20% were married couples living together, 13.10% were single mothers. 23.50% were not families. 18.80% were single households and 6.40% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.25.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 30.10% residents under 18 years of age, 8.40% between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.60% between 25 and 44 years of age, and 21.70% between 45 and 64 years of age 10.20% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 100.70 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 99.10 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 34,099 , and the median income for a family is $ 37,157. Males had a median income of $ 30,339 versus $ 23,132 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,747. 16.80% of the population and 13.50% of families are below the poverty line. 22.30% of these were under 18 years of age and 10.80% were 65 years of age or older.
