Hugo Müller-Vogg (born June 2, 1947 in Mannheim ) is a German journalist , author and publicist .

Life

Hugo Müller-Vogg attended the Karl-Friedrich-Gymnasium Mannheim . After graduating from high school in 1966, he served as a reserve officer candidate for two years as a temporary soldier in the Bundeswehr and was dismissed as a lieutenant in the reserve . From 1969 to 1974 he studied economics and political science at the University of Mannheim and the University of Vienna . He completed his studies with a degree in economics . In 1978 he was awarded the dissertation “Public Relations for the Social Market Economy. The public relations work of the Federal Association of Dt. Employers' associations, the Federal Association of Dt. Industry and the Institute of Dt. Economy "to the Dr. rer. pole. PhD . From 1974 to 1976 he was press officer at the University of Mannheim.

During his studies he was a trainee at Mannheimer Morgen , where he worked as a business editor from 1976. In 1977 he moved to the business department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ). From 1980 to 1984 he was FAZ correspondent in Düsseldorf and from 1984 to 1988 in New York City . Afterwards he was responsible for the regional part Rhein-Main-Zeitung as well as for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (FAS). From 1988 until his resignation by the FAZ in 2001, Hugo Müller-Vogg was also co-editor of the newspaper. It was the first resignation of a FAZ publisher in over 30 years. The reason for the termination was not disclosed. There was speculation about him, ranging from differences, above all with the co-editor Frank Schirrmacher, to the development of the newspaper's online presence, to the handling of reports on Joschka Fischer's 1968 biography .

From 1997 to 2001, Müller-Vogg hosted the television talk show 3, Zwei, Eins on Hessischer Rundfunk together with Luc Jochimsen and Manfred Bissinger .

Müller-Vogg has been a freelance journalist since October 2001. Until 2015 he wrote for Axel Springer Verlag , a. a. four weekly columns for the Bild newspaper (“Berlin intern”), a mace column with Gregor Gysi ( Die Linke ) for the SUPERillu and is a frequent guest on political talk shows. From 2015 to 2019 he wrote the column "Hugo Müller Vogg: Against the Current" for the online portal Tichys Insight . Since then, Müller-Vogg has been writing for Cicero and Focus, among others .

He has published numerous books on political and economic topics. In 2004 he published two volumes of conversations: “Mein Weg” with CDU chairwoman Angela Merkel and “I want to be open - and if necessary uncomfortable” with Federal President Horst Köhler . Both books were later published in an updated edition. In 2007 a volume of conversations with Hartmut Mehdorn , the head of Deutsche Bahn AG at the time, was published . At the beginning of March 2009 he published “People's Republic of Germany. 'Script' for the Red-Red-Green Turn ”is a fictional preview of the 2009 Bundestag election and its consequences. He is a member of the jury of the Vordenker Finanzforum , which awards the Vordenker Prize.

Müller-Vogg is Roman Catholic . He is married and has a daughter. Müller-Vogg works in Berlin and lives privately in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe .
