Hessian Order of Merit and Miniature

The Hessian Order of Merit has been awarded by the Hessian Prime Minister since 1990 to honor outstanding services to the state of Hesse and its population . Two levels have existed since 1998: the Hessian Order of Merit and the Hessian Order of Merit on Ribbon.

The highest award in the state of Hesse is the Wilhelm Leuschner Medal .

history

The Hessian Order of Merit was donated by Prime Minister Walter Wallmann in 1989. In 1998 Hans Eichel added a second, lower, level as the Hessian Order of Merit on ribbon.

In 2002 it was determined that the Prime Minister is automatically the bearer of the Order of Merit. However, this did not apply to Prime Minister Roland Koch, who was in office on the day the decree came into force . This procedure corresponds to the practice with the Federal Cross of Merit , which the Federal President automatically receives when he takes office.

Appearance and material

Strap buckle

The order has the shape of a cross with a diameter of 55 mm (only 45 mm for the order on the ribbon), is enamelled white on both sides (only on one side of the order on the ribbon) and has a gold border . The gold-rimmed, round central disk contains the Hessian lion in gold on a red background on the front . The colors of the lion are shown by heraldic hatching . The round disc is surrounded on both sides by an eight-part star in gold.

The order cross is worn on a blue ribbon around the neck. Women wear the order cross on a special ribbon bow below the left shoulder. The order cross of the Order of Merit on ribbon is worn on a narrow blue ribbon on the upper left side of the chest.

A miniature can be worn instead of the order cross . It shows the reduced order symbol. The miniature of the Hessian Order of Merit is 15 mm in diameter. The miniature of the Hessian Order of Merit on ribbon is 11.5 mm in diameter.

Content of the decree

The Hessian Order of Merit is awarded to honor outstanding services to the State of Hesse.

The number of living bearers of the two levels of the Hessian Order of Merit is limited: up to a total of 800 for the Hessian Order of Merit and up to 2,000 for the Hessian Order of Merit on ribbon.

If a person entrusted with the Order of Merit later turns out to be unworthy of the award, or if such behavior becomes known later, the Prime Minister can revoke the award. In this case, the medal and the award certificate must be returned.

Manufacturing

The manufacturer of the medals was from 1989 to 2004 the company WA Jäger in Offenbach am Main . The Hessian Order of Merit has been produced by the Steinhauer & Lück company in Lüdenscheid since 2005 .
