The German Reich had no orders of its own. The award of titles as well as the foundation and award of medals were reserved rights of the sovereigns and the numerous medals of the empire were the medals of the individual states. Although both Wilhelm I and Wilhelm II donated commemorative coins and decorations in their capacity as German emperors , they only made foundations and awards of medals in their capacity as kings of Prussia.
