Lifesaving Medal (Saxony-Altenburg)

The life saving medal was donated on April 1, 1882 by Duke Ernst I of Saxony-Altenburg . It could be awarded to anyone who had saved the life of an accident victim at their own risk.

The silver medal was until 1908 the portrait of the founder and the encircling inscription ERNST DUKE OF SAXONY ALTENBURG . On the back was an oak wreath tied with a double bow with the inscription FOR RESCUE FROM DANGER . From 1908 the image of Duke Ernst II could be seen on the front ; the surrounding inscription read: ERNST II. DUKE OF SAXONY-ALTENBURG .

The medal was worn on a white ribbon with dark green stripes.
