Sebastian Leicht

Sebastian Leicht (* 1908 in Szilberek ( German  Batschki-Brestovatz ), Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary , † 2002 in Passau ) was a picture chronicler of the way of life and culture of the Danube Swabians .

Life

Leicht came from a farming family in the south-eastern European region of Batschka . After training at the art school in Belgrade , he studied at the Munich Art Academy in the late 1920s. Back in the Belgrade art scene, he became a respected painter. His style is conservative, rural realism. During the Second World War he served in the 2nd Hungarian Army, in the Waffen-SS and worked as a war correspondent. After the war and displacement, Leicht came to Passau, where he lived and worked until his death. His work is of particular interest in relation to Danube Swabian culture.
