The Pro Musica badge (also spelled PRO MUSICA badge ) is a medal of honor of the Federal Republic of Germany for instrumental music making , which has been awarded by the Federal President since 1968 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of a music association .

The Pro Musica badge was donated in 1968 by Federal President Heinrich Lübke . Since 1971 it has been a tradition to honor the music associations to be honored in a central ceremony on the weekend on Sunday Laetare - three weeks before Easter . The place changes.

“The Pro Musica plaque is awarded to associations of music lovers who, over many years, have made special contributions to the cultivation of instrumental music and thus to the promotion of cultural life. The plaque is a non-wearable award and [...] is awarded by the Federal President on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of a music association on their application. The prerequisite for the award is proof that the music association has devoted itself to the maintenance of instrumental music through serious and successful musical work and has achieved artistic or popular education services within the framework of the local conditions. The award of the plaque takes place at the suggestion of the responsible state minister of culture based on the opinion of a recommendation committee. This proposal is presented to the Federal President by the Federal Minister of the Interior [...] The application for the award must be submitted in writing to the recommendation committee at least six months before the anniversary. The application must be accompanied by evidence of the founding time, concert programs of concerts, relevant press reports, commemorative publications from past anniversary celebrations, documents on special achievements in earlier times, as well as a certificate from the city or the district on the cultural activities of the music association and its services to instrumental music-making. [...] The certificate and the honor plaque are presented by the official representation of the Federal Republic of Germany in the country concerned. "

The Pro Musica badge was awarded to a total of 2,135 orchestras and ensembles nationwide by 2020.

The badge of honor is a circular bronze plaque with a diameter of 16 cm. The obverse shows “a musician with a lyre and the inscription 'For services to instrumental music-making - PRO MUSICA'. The reverse shows the federal eagle . ”The plaque is presented together with a certificate.
