The Bundesmusikverband Chor & Orchester eV (BMCO) is the overarching umbrella organization for amateur music in Germany. It represents the interests of 14 million people who make music in their free time. Of these, 3 million musicians are organized in the structures of the Bundesmusikverband Chor & Orchester eV with a total of 100,000 ensembles.

The BMCO was created through the merger of the Federal Association of German Choir Associations (BDC) and the Federal Association of German Orchestra Associations (BDO) in March 2019. Benjamin Strasser is the president .

history

Since 2016, the Federal Association of German Choir Associations and the Federal Association of German Orchestra Associations have been increasingly looking to join forces and initially agreed on a synergy-generating cooperation between their two offices in Trossingen and Berlin. As a goal of growing together, both associations decided in autumn to formally merge into a joint umbrella organization for vocal and instrumental amateur music. The official founding meeting took place on March 29, 2019 in Gotha, Thuringia.
