The German Harmonica Association is the umbrella organization for German harmonica associations . The association was founded on March 28, 1931 and is based in Trossingen .

He sees his tasks in the care, promotion and dissemination of harmonica music. According to its own information, 1176 associations with around 120,000 individuals are members of the organization. This makes the DHV the second largest instrumental amateur music association in Germany.

The clubs have a total of 767 main orchestras, 652 youth orchestras and 137 other orchestras.

The association has both institutional members in the form of associations, ensembles and music schools as well as individual members (natural persons). It is divided into 16 regional associations, some of which are registered as eV in the register of associations at their respective headquarters. Depending on their size, the state associations were further subdivided into district and district associations.

By far the largest regional association exists in Baden-Württemberg with around 620 member organizations. In addition to 15 association districts, some of which are run as an independent registered association, the DHV Accordion Youth Baden-Württemberg also has an independent state youth association recognized according to the youth education and youth welfare law. Its chairman (as of March 31, 2016: Winfried Kaupp) is also a member of the DHV state board.

The association represents the interests of accordion orchestras and associations on all political and social levels and supports its members in dealing with their professional and interdisciplinary tasks.

The association regularly organizes competitions at district, state and federal level as well as in cooperation with harmonica associations of other countries at international level. Examples of such events are the State Music Day organized annually by the DHV Accordion Youth Baden-Württemberg, the German Accordion Music Prize and, since 1970, the international World Music Festival in Innsbruck every three years.

A number of selected orchestras are organized and sponsored by the DHV. a. the Baden-Württemberg State Accordion Youth Orchestra (also known under the abbreviation "ALJO") and the Hessian State Accordion Big Band "A-Train".

Further main areas of activity of the association are musical (e.g. B, C, D and G courses, music mentors) and interdisciplinary (e.g. club management, youth leader training) training offers for the active members of the harmonica clubs, Participation in major musical events such as " Euro-Musique " or " Klingende Mainau ", promotion of aspiring professional accordionists and composition commissions.

The association offers various honors and awards for deserving active players, conductors, youth leaders and outstanding personalities in the organizational area of ​​the clubs. The DHV is also the publisher of the association magazine " Harmonika International ", which appears regularly .
