Association of German Concert Choirs

The Verband Deutscher KonzertChöre ( VDKC ) is a German choir association (federal association) with seven regional associations. It has over 550 member choirs with more than 30,400 singers. It is a non-profit organization based in Neuss .

The association brings together powerful concert, oratorio and chamber choirs. Members of the association are choirs that cultivate demanding choral music and perform it in a stylish manner at a high artistic level, be it Gregorian chant , the baroque cantata , the romantic motet , the contemporary oratorio or the choral gospel . The work of the VDKC aims to create favorable organizational and artistic framework conditions for concert choirs - regardless of their legal form.

history

The association was created through initiatives to form the protection association of German concert-giving associations in 1921. In 1925, the Reich Association of Mixed Choirs in Germany was founded; In 1950 it was re-established as the Association of Mixed Choirs in Germany , which was renamed the Association of German Oratorio and Chamber Choirs in 1956 . After German reunification, in May 1991 a merger with East German associations to form the Association of German Concert Choirs .

The association offers members framework agreements with GEMA and VGM processing regulations and insurance companies. In addition, there is, among other things, its own series of publications with publications on everything to do with choirs and an extensive website.

Every four years the Association of German Concert Choirs organizes the German Choir Festival, most recently in Magdeburg in 2017 (19th German Choir Festival "Welt in Atem"). The association advises its member choirs on artistic, organizational and economic issues. The VDKC sends out the newsletter CHOR und KONZERT online and publishes the choir magazine CHOR und KONZERT once a year . He also represents the interests of the member choirs in the German Music Council .

Ekkehard Klemm has been President of the VDKC since 2013 . The federal office based in Weimar has been headed by VDKC General Secretary Ralf Schöne since 2000.
