Georg Melhorn

Georg Melhorn (* around 1513 in Altenburg ; † April 5, 1563 in Waldenburg ) was a German educator and Protestant theologian.

Life

Melhorn first matriculated in 1543 at the University of Wittenberg and in the summer semester 1544 at the University of Leipzig . In the same year he moved back to the University of Wittenberg . After a short time as rector in Großenhain in 1549, he went back to Wittenberg , where on February 11, 1550 he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree. On the recommendation of Philipp Melanchthon , Melhorn briefly went to the Pforta state school as rector in 1551 . But nothing more can be determined about his work there.

In 1552 he was back in Wittenberg, and on repeated recommendation by Melanchthon, Melhorn went to Augsburg as a preacher and was ordained a preacher at the Barfüßerkirche there on February 22, 1553 . In Augsburg there was a dispute with the other preachers because Melhorn assumed Zwinglische tendencies to them, and therefore he was dismissed there in 1555. He went to Ravensburg , but also suffered adversity here because of his appearance and went to Waldenburg in Schönburg in 1559, where he found a job as a pastor and first superintendent and died in 1563.
