Odioma is a village near Bayelsa , Nigeria .

According to Amnesty International , on February 19, 2005, a joint task force raided the community of Odioma. She killed at least seventeen people and raped two women. Eighty percent of the village was destroyed in the raid. To date, according to Amnesty, there has been no independent investigation into these incidents. Those responsible have not been held accountable.

In February 2005 Shell began producing oil in the recently developed swamps in Odioma, 80 kilometers southwest of Port Harcourt . The rebel group Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta has been fighting for control of the indigenous minorities over the Niger Delta since the beginning of 2006. The largest minority in the Niger Delta is the Ijaw people , many members of the tribe are rebellious and try to defend themselves against their exploitation. Like many other minorities, they successfully hide in the mangrove swamps.
