The war badge for the naval artillery was donated on June 24, 1941 by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Grand Admiral Erich Raeder . It could be awarded to all ranks of the naval artillery and naval anti-aircraft units.

Award conditions were:

  • Worthiness and good leadership

and the achievement of 8 points according to the following system:

  • Killing an enemy aircraft by a heavy, medium or light anti-aircraft battery - 2 points
  • Participation in the launch when several batteries are involved - 1 point
  • Successful work of a 150 cm flak launcher battery or a 60 cm flak launcher train, which has created the prerequisites for successful combat with flak batteries or night fighters - ½ point
  • Successful work of radio measuring devices, which, due to the delivered target location, is assigned to the shooting down of an enemy aircraft by anti-aircraft cartillery in the plan fire and is recorded with this - 2 points
  • Successful work of the battle staffs of anti-aircraft or sub-group commands, which enabled the shooting of an enemy with plan fire - 2 points

The war badge for naval artillery could also be awarded regardless of the conditions mentioned:

  • for exceptional performance in combat
  • for merits in the command of the troops for officers in service positions from the department commander downwards, unless other awards are given.
  • Deceased who have fulfilled or nearly fulfilled the above conditions if their death is the result of an injury, an accident or an illness which they suffered or were contracted during their deployment.

The oval badge made of tombac bronze (later Feinzink) shows in the middle a gun pointing to the top left . In the background, the sea is indicated in wavy lines. It is enclosed by an oak wreath and shows the sovereign badge of the Wehrmacht on top.

The award was worn as a pin medal on the left chest.

According to the law on titles, medals and decorations of July 26, 1957, wearing the version of the Third Reich in the Federal Republic of Germany is only permitted without National Socialist emblems.
