The war badge for auxiliary cruisers was donated on April 24, 1941 by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Grand Admiral Erich Raeder , and could be awarded to experienced crews of auxiliary cruisers used in the cruiser war .

An official donation of the war badge for auxiliary cruisers with diamonds is not known, but this award was given to Captain Bernhard Rogge on December 31, 1941 . Hellmuth von Ruckteschell also received it.

According to the law on titles, medals and decorations of July 26, 1957, wearing the award in the Federal Republic of Germany is only permitted without National Socialist emblems.
