The pilot badge was an aviator badge of the Luftwaffe of the German Wehrmacht , which was donated on March 14, 1935 by the Commander in Chief of the Luftwaffe, Hermann Göring .

The badge could be awarded after successfully completing the piloting and weapons school. It was awarded to all pilots as a training confirmation and is therefore not an award for military performance.

It could also be awarded to people who were trained as pilots before the decree, if they served as pilots in the air force, and after the annexation of Austria in 1938 also to members of the Austrian air force who were accepted into the German air force.

According to the law on titles, medals and decorations of July 26, 1957, wearing the badge in the Federal Republic of Germany is only permitted without National Socialist emblems.
