It is operated at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center at Stanford University in collaboration with other physics institutes around the world.

history

The website was the database at the time of its creation ( 1991 ) the first in the United States and the first database was ever accessed via the World Wide Web. In the meantime, in connection with the ArXiv, it has become one of the most important research tools for scientists researching in the field of high energy physics. In April 2012, SPIRES was completely replaced by INSPIRE-HEP , which is now the most important information platform in the field of high energy physics.
