The observer badge was an award of the Luftwaffe of the German Wehrmacht , which was donated on January 19, 1935 by the Commander in Chief of the Luftwaffe, Hermann Göring .

The badge could be awarded to active soldiers of the Air Force personnel at the earliest after five enemy flights or, in the event of wounding, earlier or two months after acquiring the Air Force Observer's Certificate. A loan to members of other units of the Wehrmacht was possible as long as the existing regulations were observed.

The oval badge made of tombac (later Feinzink) shows in the middle an eagle flying to the right with a swastika in its fangs. It is surrounded by a wreath made from laurel leaves on the left and oak leaves on the right .

The award was worn as a pin medal on the left chest.

According to the law on titles, medals and decorations of July 26, 1957, wearing the badge in the Federal Republic of Germany is only permitted without National Socialist emblems.
