The Elbe Flood Medal of the State of Brandenburg was donated on November 29, 2002 by the then Prime Minister of the State Matthias Platzeck . It was therefore state recognition for particularly self-sacrificing assistance in averting dangers and removing damage on the occasion of the flood disaster in August 2002. Design and way of wearing the medal

The Elbe flood medal is made of bronze-colored brass material . In the middle of the front is the state coat of arms , the Märkischer Adler with the inscription: Land Brandenburg embossed. The reverse of the medal shows the geographical representation of the affected region with the rivers Elbe and Oder . The Elbe Flood Medal is awarded by the Prime Minister to all people who have provided active assistance in the flood and flood disaster area on the Elbe and its tributaries.

Award requirements

The Elbe Flood Medal is awarded:

  • b) The operation must have taken place on site or in the emergency response teams.

In addition to the badge of honor, those to be honored receive an award certificate with the signature of the Prime Minister and the large official seal of the state. The medal becomes the property of the borrower. In the event of the owner's death, his survivors are not obliged to return the property.

Authorization to propose

The right to make proposals, which should lead to the award of the medal, are the highest state authorities responsible for their area of ​​responsibility and the districts. The suggestions must be submitted to the person entitled to make suggestions.

Mandatory inspection

The bodies authorized to make proposals are responsible for checking whether the requirements for the award of the medal have been met. In cases of doubt, a generous decision is to be made, whereby duplicate submissions should be avoided during the examination. The proposals are to be justified as a whole and not in detail. After this type of preliminary examination, the proposals are to be submitted in duplicate to the State Chancellery. They must contain the following information:

Procedure

The State Chancellery informs the bodies entitled to make proposals about the names of the awardees from their area to whom the medal is to be awarded. At the same time, the State Chancellery sends the medals along with award certificates. The bodies entitled to make proposals then arrange for the medal to be handed over and handed over to the respective recipient with the award certificate. The closing date for the award was December 31, 2003.
