Bornwird ( West Frisian Boarnwert ) is a village in the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân in the Dutch province of Friesland . It is located west of Dokkum and has 120 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
The residents of Bornwird make their living mainly from cattle breeding and the village is surrounded by pastureland. Bornwird was on a mound , originally greater than the Terps Brantgums and Foudgums was built. But part of the terp has already been removed.
In Bornwird there is a church from the 13th century , which is dedicated to Mary . During restoration work in the church in 1987, a wall painting with the representation of Christophorus came to light.
