Brantgum ( West Frisian Brantgum ) is a village in the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân in the Dutch province of Friesland . It is located northwest of Dokkum and has 235 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
Archaeological finds in Brantgum and on the way from Holwerd to Dokkum suggest that people lived in Brantgum as early as 2000 years ago. However, no statement can be made about their way of life. Brantgum was first mentioned in 1450.
The painter Ids Wiersma (1878–1965) was born on June 21, 1878 in Brantum.
