The Cross for Merit in War , together with the Medal for Merit in War, was donated on March 7, 1915 by Duke Bernhard von Sachsen-Meiningen and awarded for merit earned during the war.

Cross for merit in war

The award, which is given exclusively to officers, is a bronze cross that is surrounded by a circlet. A crown can be seen in each of the four cross angles. On the front, the ring is formed from an oak wreath . The initial B (Bernhard) in the medallion . On the reverse of the circlet the inscription FOR MERIT IN WAR 1914/15 and the coat of arms of Saxony on the medallion .

A crown is attached between the cross and the suspension ring.

Medal for Merit in War

The round medal made of black bronze was awarded to NCOs , crews and other people without rank. It shows the award described above, with a crown depicted on the upper cross arm.

Carrying method

Both awards were worn on a black ribbon with yellow side and green stripes on the left chest.
