The medal "For very good performance in socialist professional competition" was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated on November 19, 1970 in one stage. They were awarded to apprentices who had fulfilled their competitive obligations and the curriculum requirements with very good results in the socialist professional competition . Also for apprentices who were creatively and actively involved in the innovator movement and who were involved in solving scientific and technical tasks in the field of learning, production, pre-military training as well as culture and sport. The medal could also be awarded repeatedly in each apprenticeship year.

Appearance and wearing style

The gold-plated medal with a diameter of 30 mm shows the symbol of the professional competition in the middle of its obverse : an open book resting in front of a hammer and compass with round ears. This symbolism is surrounded by the inscription: FOR VERY GOOD PERFORMANCE IN SOCIALIST PROFESSIONAL COMPETITION . The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, is smooth and shows the four-line inscription (a quote from Lenin): LEARNING, LEARNING / AND AGAIN / LEARNING / (LENIN) . The medal was worn on a 20 × 15 mm lacquered clasp with a black background in the middle of which a 4 mm wide golden bar is embedded horizontally. The symbol of the professional competition just described is embedded in the center of the clasp. The color variant described here was used until 1971, from 1972 the medal and clasp were bronze-colored and no longer painted black, but blue. The medal was initially worn on the upper right side of the chest and then on the left from 1978.
