The Star of Friendship between Nations was a medal that was awarded in the GDR . It was donated on August 20, 1959 and served to “honor extraordinary services to the German Democratic Republic, to the understanding and friendship of the peoples and to the maintenance of peace” . The order consists of a five-pointed star with the GDR emblem in the center, on the wreath of ears there is a symbolic dove of peace after Pablo Picasso . There was also a medal clasp and a 2.50 m long shoulder strap.

The Star of Friendship of Nations was awarded in three classes:

  2. GDR Star of Friendship of Nations - Gold BAR.png Star of friendship between nations in gold
  3. GDR Star of Friendship of Nations - Silver BAR.png Star of friendship among peoples in silver.

The Big Star has been awarded at least 163 times, making it one of the rarest medals in the GDR.
