Kurt Seibt (1967)

Kurt Seibt (* 13. February 1908 in Berlin , † 21st June 2002 in Zeuthen ) was a German KPD -Funktionär and SED - politicians . He was chairman of the central revision commission of the SED and minister for guidance and control of the district and district councils of the GDR .

Life

education and profession

Seibt came from a working-class family. After attending elementary school , he completed three evening semesters at the higher technical institute for civil engineering and trained as a metal pusher in Berlin-Oberschöneweide from 1922 to 1926 . From 1926 to 1933 he worked as a civil engineering worker and stone setter.

Youth functionary

In 1922 he joined the Socialist Workers' Youth , in 1924 the Communist Youth Association of Germany (KJVD) and the German Metal Workers Association (DMV). From 1924 to 1926 he was branch youth leader in DMV Berlin, from 1927 to 1930 first secretary of the KJVD sub-district Berlin-Kreuzberg , from 1930 to 1931 state youth leader of the Brandenburg Red Sports Unit and member of the KJVD district management.

Party official, resistance and imprisonment

Since 1932 member of the KPD and its Berlin-Brandenburg district leadership. From 1934 to 1939 he was a stage worker and theater master at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and a member of the illegal party leadership of the KPD in Berlin-Bohnsdorf under the direction of Willi Gall . He was arrested on December 8, 1939 and sentenced to life in prison by the People's Court in 1941 for “ decomposing the German military force and preparing for high treason ” . Until 1945 he was a prisoner in the Brandenburg-Görden prison .

In 1945/1946 Seibt was first secretary of the Brandenburg district leadership and member of the Brandenburg state leadership of the KPD, as well as chairman of the state organization office of the consumer cooperatives . From 1946 to 1952 he was secretary of the SED state leadership in Brandenburg, and from 1946 to 1948 chairman of the supervisory board of the Brandenburg Consumer Association. From 1947 to 1952 Seibt was a member of the Brandenburg state parliament and from 1950 to 1952 chairman of the SED parliamentary group. From 1952 to 1964, interrupted by studying at the party college of the CPSU in Moscow (1956/1957), he was first secretary of the SED district leadership in Potsdam . He was also a candidate since 1950, and from 1954 to 1989 a member of the Central Committee of the SED. From 1953 to 1989 he was a member of the People's Chamber and from 1954 to 1963 also chairman of its electoral examination committee.

From June 3, 1964 to December 22, 1965, Seibt was minister for the guidance and control of the district and district councils and member of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers, 1966/1967 briefly secretary of the committee of anti-fascist resistance fighters . From 1967 to 1989, as the successor to Fritz Gäbler, he was chairman of the Central Revision Commission of the SED and from 1976 to 1989 also chairman of the GDR Solidarity Committee .
