Paul Roscher (born September 17, 1913 in Pockau ; † August 24, 1993 ) was a German KPD and SED functionary.

Life

Roscher was born as the son of the later KPD functionary and Reichstag member Max Roscher . After attending elementary school , he trained as a machine fitter . In 1928 he became a member of the KJVD and the German Metalworkers' Association . In 1932 he joined the KPD. In 1933, he participated actively in the resistance against the Nazis , was arrested in 1935 and two and a half years prison sentenced, then detention in a concentration camp Moor camps in the Emsland . He was later drafted into the Wehrmacht's 999 punitive battalion and was taken prisoner by the French .

In 1947 he returned to Germany (the Soviet Zone ) and became a member of the SED. He was temporarily secretary of the SED district leadership in Marienberg . He was then from 1949 to 1952 department head in the SED regional leadership in Saxony , then from 1952 to 1954 Secretary for Agriculture in the SED district leadership in Leipzig . In 1954/1955 he studied at the party college "Karl Marx" and earned a degree in social science . After completing his studies he was first secretary for agriculture in 1955, then in 1958/1959 second secretary of the SED district leadership in Erfurt . From 1959 to 1963 Roscher acted as first secretary of the SED district leadership in Gera , from 1963 to 1976 as first secretary of the SED district leadership in Karl-Marx-Stadt . From 1963 to 1989 he was also a member of the Central Committee of the SED , from 1963 to 1981 a member of the People's Chamber .
