Siegfried Lorenz (born November 26, 1930 in Annaberg ) is a former FDJ and SED functionary. He was a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED and First Secretary of the SED district leadership in Karl-Marx-Stadt .

Life

The son of a dyer and a seamstress worked after attending primary school from 1944 to 1945 as an agricultural assistant and errand boy.

He joined the SPD in 1945 and the FDJ in 1946 and became a member of the SED in 1946 after the forced unification of the SPD and KPD . In 1946 he was employed as a clerk at the SED city administration Annaberg and from 1946 to 1947 secretary of the FDJ city administration Annaberg. In 1947 he attended the Annaberg Business School, in 1948/49 the workers and farmers faculties in Chemnitz and Leipzig and studied social sciences at the University of Leipzig until 1951 . Then he was department head of student youth at the Central Council of the FDJ until 1953. After studying at the Berlin district party school, he was secretary for agitation and propaganda for the FDJ district leadership in Berlin from 1954 to 1956. After further studies at the Karl Marx party college with a degree in social science , he was second secretary from January 1958 and first secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Berlin from 1961 to 1965 . He was also a city councilor and candidate or member of the SED district leadership in Berlin from 1958 to 1967.

From 1961 to 1976 he was a member of the Central Council of the FDJ and from 1963 to 1967 a Berlin representative and until 1990 a member of the People's Chamber , among other things as a member and chairman of the youth committee. In 1965/66 he was head of the party organs department of the SED district leadership in Berlin. From 1966 to 1976 he headed the youth department at the Central Committee of the SED and at the same time the youth commission at the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED. In 1967 he became a candidate and in 1971 a member of the Central Committee of the SED. From March 1976 to November 1989 Lorenz was the first secretary of the SED district leadership in Karl-Marx-Stadt. In 1985 he became a candidate and in 1986 a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED. From November 8th to December 3rd, 1989 Lorenz was secretary of the Central Committee of the SED. On 20./21. January 1990 his membership in the SED was confirmed by the Central Arbitration Commission of the party.

Convicted of accessory to murder

In the last trial against members of the former SED Politburo because of the fatal shots at the Berlin Wall , the Berlin Regional Court sentenced Lorenz to a 15-month suspended prison sentence on August 6, 2004 for aiding and abetting the triple murder of Michael Bittner , Lutz Schmidt and Chris Gueffroy .
