Heinz Kimmel (born November 30, 1927 in Pausitz , Grossenhain district ; † September 7, 2004 in Berlin ) was an FDJ and SED functionary.

Life

Kimmel, a teacher by profession, worked for the Antifa youth in Riesa in 1945/46 and then headed the FDJ in Riesa. After attending the state youth school of the FDJ, he was first chairman of the FDJ district association Löbau from 1946 to 1948 . He attended the party college "Karl Marx" in 1948/1949 and was chairman of the FDJ district association in Dresden from 1949 to 1951 . On the III. Parliament of the FDJ in June 1949 he was elected a member of the Central Council of the FDJ. In 1951, Kimmel became a personal employee of the then FDJ chairman Erich Honecker . 1951/52 he was chairman of the FDJ regional association in Berlin, 1952/53 first secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Berlin. At the fourth parliament of the FDJ in May 1952 he was re-elected to the central council and a member of the office of the central council of the FDJ. On August 21, 1953, he was replaced by Hans Modrow as first secretary of the FDJ district leadership and began studying. He then acted from 1954 to 1957 as first secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Halle (Saale) , was a member of the SED district leadership in Halle and at times also a candidate for their office. From 1957 to July 1961 he was the secretary of the Central Council of the FDJ responsible for agitation, propaganda, culture and sport. On June 11, 1959 he was co-opted as a member of the DTSB federal executive committee.

From 1961 to 1964 he studied at the party college at the Central Committee of the CPSU in Moscow , graduating as a social scientist . In the following years, Kimmel worked in various party functions of the Berlin SED: until 1967 he was deputy head of the culture department of the SED central committee, from 1967 he was party secretary of the SED basic organization in the VEB Elektroprojekt Berlin and from 1970 secretary of the SED district leadership Berlin center. From 1971 to November 1989 he was First Secretary of the Berlin-Friedrichshain District Management . Kimmel had also been a member of the SED district leadership in Berlin since 1974.

On January 26, 1990, an arrest warrant was issued against him on suspicion of election fraud. In the local elections on May 7, 1989 , according to Klaus Voss, Attorney General of Berlin, he put direct pressure on the mayor Heinz Borbach, who had just been appointed at the time. In Friedrichshain there was the greatest degree of “preparation” for the election result: three variants were planned in advance so that the envisaged election result could be achieved and a self-imposed target!

Kimmel was married to the SED and FDGB functionary Annelis Kimmel . He died in 2004 and was buried in the Adlershof cemetery.
