Erich Postler

Erich Postler (born November 25, 1940 in Märzdorf , Northern Bohemia) is a former German youth functionary ( FDJ ) and politician ( SED ). He was a member of the Central Committee of the SED and first secretary of the SED district leadership in Gera .

Life

Postler, the son of a farmer , attended elementary school and the agricultural college in Stadtroda . He initially worked on his parents' farm, became a state-certified farmer and qualified as an agricultural engineer in 1962. He worked as an agricultural engineer in the LPG "Komsomol" in Fürstenwerder .

After studying at the Komsomol University in Moscow , he was a member of the Central Council (ZR) of the FDJ from 1959 to 1980. From 1963 to 1965 he worked as a secretary for rural youth and from 1965 to 1969 as the first secretary of the FDJ district management in Schwerin . He then acted from 1969 to 1976 as secretary for rural youth, then until 1980 as second secretary of the ZR of the FDJ. From May 1976 to December 1989 Postler was a member of the Central Committee of the SED and from February 1981 to October 1989 second secretary of the SED district leadership in Schwerin.

On November 2, 1989, he was unanimously elected First Secretary by the SED district leadership in Gera. Postler was a member of the working committee for the preparation of the special party congress of the SED in December 1989. On December 21, 1989, however, he resigned from the function of first secretary of the SED district leadership in Gera. Postler returned to Mecklenburg and worked at VEG Banzkow .

Postler has been a member of the PDS and the Die Linke party since 1990 and is a member of the Solidarity Committee for Victims of Political Persecution in Germany.
