Martínkovice (German March village) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is four kilometers south of Broumov and three kilometers northwest of Božanov , where there is a border crossing into the Polish town of Radków .

Martínkovice lies at the southeastern foot of the Falcon Mountains and north of the Heuscheuer Mountains . It is a five-kilometer-long forest hoof village that stretches on both sides of the Martínkovický creek to its confluence with the Steine .

history

church

March village was first mentioned in 1320. It was founded by the Braunau monastery under Abbot Martin. That is why it was initially called "Martini villa". The settlement took place with German colonists. Around 1393 the place was called Mertensdorf and later as March village . There is evidence of a school in 1605 where Georg Han taught. In the 19th century, Märzdorf had a parish school near the church and a branch school in the upper village.

After the abolition of patrimonial March village formed a municipality in the judicial district of Braunau or in the later district of Braunau . In addition to agriculture and forestry, the residents worked in crafts and industry. In the second half of the 19th century, numerous residents emigrated to Chile. A mechanical weaving mill was founded on the site of the former mill, which was expanded in 1875 by the Náchod factory owner Moritz Schur and later taken over by Josef Schmidt and employed around 400 workers. In addition to damask and other textiles, parachute silk was also produced. In 1912 a new school building was built, and after 1918 a class for Czech children was set up there.

During the First World War , a large prisoner-of-war camp with up to 40,000 captured Serbs and Russians was set up in Märzdorf.

After the Munich Agreement in 1938, Märzdorf, which was mostly inhabited by Germans, was added to the German Reich and until 1945 belonged to the Braunau district . In 1945 and 1946 the German residents were expelled. As a result of this and the closure of the textile factory, the population fell significantly. After the cancellation of the Broumov Okres, Martínkovice came to the Okres Náchod in 1961.
