The stones (historically Stynau , Steinwasser , also Steinau , Polish Ścinawka , Czech Stěnava ) is a left tributary of the Glatzer Neisse in Poland and the Czech Republic .

course

The Ścinawka rises five kilometers southeast of the town of Wałbrzych ( Waldenburg ) on the slope of the Borowa ( Black Mountain , 853 m npm) in the Waldenburger Bergland near the village of Kamionka ( Steinau ). It runs first in a westerly direction through Krygwizą ( Krickwiese ) and Unisław Śląski ( Langwaltersdorf ), then turns south after six kilometers below Unisław Śląski. Then the Ścinawka flows via Unisław Dolny ( Nieder-Waltersdorf ), Ługowina ( Blitzengrund ) and Kowalowa ( Schmidtsdorf ) to Mieroszów ( Friedland ). Below the town, the river changes its direction to the southeast, flows past Golińsk ( Hof Göhlenau ) and after three and a half kilometers near Starostín it reaches Czech territory, where it is known as Stěnava .

At its middle reaches flowing through Stěnava the Broumovská kotlina ( Broumov Basin ), the Broumovské stěny ( Falk Mountains ) from the Javoří Mountains ( Heidel Mountains separates). The towns of Meziměstí , Bělidlo, Hynčice , Olivětín , Broumov , Poříčí , Velká Ves and Otovice are located along the river . From the confluence of the Božanovský potok ( Busebach ) brook, the Stěnava flows back into Polish territory between Otovice and Janików ( Scheidewinkel ).

The lower reaches of the Ścinawka leads from Tłumaczów through the Kłodzko Land . Along the river, the valley here the Owl Mountains from the Table Mountains separates the towns of Sarny (are Scharfeneck ) Ścinawka Górna , Bernowo, Ścinawka Średnia , Zielony Dwór ( Grünhof ) Ścinawka Dolna , Gorzuchówek ( small Möhlten ) Gorzuchów , Gielzów ( crows houses ) , Piszkowice , Bierkowice , Gołogłowy and Ścinawica . Between Ścinawica and Ławica , four kilometers north of Kłodzko , the river flows into the Glatzer Neisse after 62 kilometers .

The small mountain river has a steep gradient and often becomes a torrential river, especially when the snow melts or when there is heavy rainfall, which has already caused multiple floods and destruction, such as B. in 1938.

history

The stones was the main river of the Braunauer Ländchen . In 1876 the Halbstadt – Mittelsteine railway line was added along the river , and the Nieder Salzbrunn – Halbstadt line two years later .
