Mindoro is an island in the western part of the Philippines .

According to the 2000 census, the island has over 1 million people speaking Tagalog . The largest city is Calapan on the north coast with over 100,000 inhabitants.

With an area of 9,735 km², Mindoro is the seventh largest island in the Philippines, together with the minor islands it covers 10,244.50 km². The island extends over 110 km in north-south direction and forms a headland to the northwest. It is about 80 km wide in an east-west direction. A ridge that also runs in a north-south direction separates the east and west coast. The highest mountain is the Halcon in the north with 2,582 m, in the south the Baco rises . In the northeast, not far from the coast, is the 10 km long Naujan Lake.
In the northeast lies the main Philippine island of Luzon . Just off the northeast coast are the small islands of Verde and Maricaban , on the busy Isla Verde Strait , and the Calavite Strait separates Mindoro from the Lubang Islands in the northwest.
The Mindoro Strait extends to the west with the Nanga Islands and the larger island of Busuanga . The waters just offshore, in front of the Apo Reef , are also called the Apo East Passage .
In the south, the island of Ilin is only separated by a narrow, approximately 500 m wide arm of the sea. In the south, the start Sulu Sea , in the southeast of the Tablas Strait and to the east the Sibuyan Sea and the island of Marinduque and Romblonen .

On Mindoro Island, these places are worth visiting: Aroma Beach , Laymon Beach , White Island , Lake Naujan , Puerto Galera and the Tamaraw Falls . In addition, there is the small diving island Pandan Island on the west coast in front of the cargo port town of Sablayan . From here you have the shortest ship route to the Apo Reef , which is considered to be one of the world's best dive sites .
