The Mindoro pustular pig ( Sus oliveri ) is a newly discovered species of mammal from the family of real pigs (Suidae).
Four skulls and part of the skin of this species have been found so far, all on the island of Mindoro, which belongs to the Philippines . The fur that comes from a head is black with some yellow flecks. The construction of the skull differs from that of the Philippine pustular pig , to which the finds have so far been assigned. It is more elongated and more curved downwards and has a few other differences.
In 1997, the Mindoro Pustular Pig was described as a subspecies of the Philippines Pustular Pig when the various species of pigs in the Philippines were morphologically examined. It became known in 2001 that the finds can be assigned to a new species. It was named after William Oliver, the head of the "Pigs & Peccaries Specialist Group" of the IUCN , Sus oliveri . This species is threatened by the ongoing deforestation on its home island.
