The Mindoro rat ( Anonymomys mindorensis ) is a little-known rodent from the Philippines island of Mindoro .
All specimens were seen on the slopes of Ilong Peak in the northeast of the island. They had a head body length of around 12 centimeters, plus a tail length of around 20 centimeters. They were light brown on the top and whitish on the underside. The fur was prickly and bristly, the tail was tasseled. Outwardly, the Mindoro rat resembles a white-bellied rat (genus Niviventer ), but can be anatomically distinguished by a shorter snout and relatively larger teeth.
Mindoro rats are apparently tree dwellers. The only place where it was found is around 1400 meters above sea level. The IUCN lists the species under “too little data available” ( data deficient ).
The Mindoro rat is not closely related to other Filipino Old World mice , but forms the Dacnomys group with several other Southeast Asian species .
