The Lubang Islands are a Philippine archipelago in the South China Sea , a marginal sea of ​​the Pacific Ocean . The island chain extends about 52 km northeast of Mindoro Island as the crow flies , separated from the Calavite Strait . The small archipelago is located at the western exit of the busy Isla Verde Strait . In the waters off the archipelago, the fourth of the five naval battles of La Naval de Manila took place on September 16, 1646 , which went down in the history of the Philippines as the victory over the Netherlands.
