The Calavite Strait (English Calavite Passage ) is a strait in the Philippines that separates the Lubang Islands and Mindoro .

It connects the southwestern part of the South China Sea and the Mindoro Strait with the Isla Verde Strait and is an arm of the sea on which the shipping traffic between Batangas City , Puerto Galera with the port cities of the island of Palawan , the Calamian Islands and the west coast of the Mindoro Island is being settled.

The passage of the strait is considered difficult when entering from the height of Cape Calavite from the west. The 1510 meter high Mount Calavite and the mountains on the Lubang Islands create a venturi effect . Since the strong current in the strait comes from the Mindoro Strait, a concurrent current is generated during the passage due to the strong current. If a north-easterly wind blows it is against the main current direction, which causes a heavy, breaking sea. There are repeated reports of yachts that have broken off the passage of the strait and then call at Subic Bay or circle the Lubang Islands, which means a detour of over 150 km.

On September 16, 1646, the fourth of the five naval battles of La Naval de Manila , between Dutch and Spanish galleons , took place in Calavite Street .
