Batangas City ( Filipino : Lungsod ng Batangas ) is a major city in the Philippines . It is located on the south coast of the main island of Luzón , in the CALABARZON region and is the capital of the Batangas province .

Batangas has a sea ​​port and is an important center for the handling and processing of agricultural products from the region. The central church is the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception from 1857.

The world's largest statue of the Virgin Mary is currently being erected in the southern part of Batangas Bay . The " Statue of Mary of Montemaria " will be 102 meters high, higher than the Statue of Liberty in New York (93 meters) and the statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro (38 meters).
