history

The municipality of Agoncillo was originally part of the municipality of Lemery. In 1945, the first appointed mayor, Jacinto Mendoza, formed an executive committee that prepared a resolution to request the interior minister through the provincial commission to separate 11 districts of Lemery and to form an independent municipality. The municipality of Pansipit was formed through the implementation of an executive order issued by the then President Elpidio Quirino . However, the Lemery Municipality Council passed a resolution repealing the aforementioned establishment of the Municipality of Pansipit. Ultimately, on April 17, 1949, Executive Order No. 212 was issued by President Elpidio Quirino, which lifted the suspension and approved the immediate formation of a township under the name Agoncillo. The name was chosen in honor of Don Felipe Agoncillo . Don Felipe Agoncillo was a resident of Taal and is considered the first Filipino representative diplomat .
