history

The village of Maršov was founded in 1255 by the Břevnov Monastery . The villages of Petrovice and Petrovičky were probably established at the end of the 13th century by the lords of Dubá and in 1341 they were acquired by the Police Benedictine monastery along with other villages . In the middle of the 14th century, the monastery built the Vlčinec fortress on the spur between Metuje and Dunajka.

In 1420 a battle broke out in the Metuje valley near Petrovice between a Silesian army, which fought on the side of the Bohemian king Sigismund , and the Hussites , in which the Vlčinec castle was also destroyed. On the side of the Hussites there were about 250 dead.

Maršov was divided into a post or share ( Maršov Náchodský ) and an Old Politzer share ( Maršov Staropolický ) until the 17th century . All three villages remained subject to the Politz monastery until the middle of the 19th century and were located in the Königgrätzer Kreis .

After the abolition of patrimonial Petrovice and Petrovičky merged in 1849 to form a municipality Petrovice in the judicial district of Politz ; Maršov was part of the Žďár municipality . From 1868 all three villages belonged to the Braunau district . In 1891 Maršov became an independent municipality. Between 1939 and 1945 the three villages were assigned to the Nachod district , after the end of the Second World War they became part of the Okres Broumov again. This was lifted in the course of the territorial reform of 1960, since then the community has belonged to Okres Náchod. On July 1, 1960, the municipalities Petrovice and Maršov nad Metují merged to form the municipality Velké Petrovice. Since 2007 the community has had a coat of arms and a banner.
