Vysokov (German Wysokow , also Hohenfeld ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located three kilometers west of Náchod and belongs to the Okres Náchod .

history

Vysokov was built directly on the old trade and military route that led from Prague via Königgrätz and Glatz to Silesia . It belonged to the Nachod rule , with which it remained connected until the abolition of patrimonial rule in 1848. It was first mentioned in 1465. Another mention was made in 1488 when Jan von Krucemburk bought an estate in Vysokov. Under Duke Heinrich d. Ä. von Münsterberg a fiefdom was established in Vysokov in 1491, after the previous one had probably expired for some time.

During the Seven Years' War , the Prussian Lieutenant General Otto Magnus von Schwerin and his regiment invaded the Nachoder area on September 17, 1756 . The regiment consisted of 35,000 soldiers camped north of the villages of Vysokov and Kramolna . At the end of July 1758, fighting between Austrian and Prussian troops took place in this area.

Vysokov became famous in the German War of 1866. It began on June 27, 1866 in the corridors of Vysokov, where the Prussian and Austrian armies met for the first time. The events of that day went down in history as the Battle of Nachod .

Vysokov's children first attended school in Provodov . From 1876 they were taught in a newly built schoolhouse in Vysokov. Vysokov gained railway connection with the construction of the lines Jaroměř - Trutnov 1859–1869 and Choceň - Meziměstí 1872–1875. In addition to agriculture, a brickworks and a lime kiln were of economic importance. From the end of the 19th century, numerous residents of Vysokov were employed in the textile factories of Josef Bartoň-Dobenín and Isidor Mautner in neighboring Nachod.

From 1985 to 1990 Vysokov belonged to the municipality of Nachod. From 1991 it is again an independent municipality.
