The abbreviation v. l. No. means from left to right and is used in particular for captions in order to be able to name the people or objects shown in the picture in order.

Occasionally the reverse variant v. r. n. l. ( from right to left ) usage.

Notation

From left to right , it used to be abbreviated with “left to right”, ie without spaces. According to DIN 5008 , a space is recommended between the abbreviated words today. A narrow, non-breaking space is often used for better structure and readability . The variant “from left to right” is also still widely used.
