Lessing Prize of the GDR
The Lessing Prize of the GDR was a highly respected GDR - Literature Prize , which from 22 January 1954 the 225th anniversary of Lessing , from the Ministry of Culture was awarded. It was intended to honor outstanding works in the field of stage poetry as well as in the field of art theory and art criticism, which in Lessing's spirit are significant for the development of art . The award was presented by the Minister of Culture to mark the birthday of Lessing respectively on 22 January and the first time on 22 January 1955. The award was to individuals or collectives are awarded up to six people, to 1977 per year, every two years thereafter. It consisted of a medal, a certificate and a donation of 10,000 marks . With the Lessing Prize of the Free State of Saxony , the tradition of this prize has been continued since 1993, which is also awarded there during the Kamenz Lessing Days .
