Helmut Baierl

Helmut Johannes Baierl (born December 23, 1926 in Rumburg , Czechoslovakia , † September 12, 2005 in Berlin ) was a German writer and vice-president of the Academy of Arts of the GDR .

Life

Baierl, a member of the NSDAP since 1944 , was a farm worker and Russian teacher after his expulsion from Czechoslovakia. From 1949 to 1951 he studied Slavic Studies at the University of Halle (Saale) and was then a lecturer in Russian in the adult qualification. From 1955 to 1957 he studied at the Institute for Literature "Johannes R. Becher" , was chief editor of the Hofmeisterverlag Leipzig until 1959 and until 1967 author and dramaturge at the Berliner Ensemble .

Baierl was a member of the LDP from 1945 to 1947 , then of the SED until 1989 . From 1961 to 1967 he was party secretary of the Berliner Ensemble , then a candidate until 1968 and a member of the SED district leadership in Berlin until 1989.

Baierl had been a freelance writer since 1967 . He was secretary of the poetry section from 1970 to 1974 and vice-president of the Academy of Arts until 1990. Since 1968 he was recorded under the code name "Flinz" as an unofficial employee (IM) of the MfS .
