Horst Seeger
Horst Seeger (born November 6, 1926 in Erkner ; † January 2, 1999 in Dresden ; pseudonym: Horst Schell ) was a German musicologist , music critic , dramaturge , author and artistic director .
Life
Seeger studied musicology at the Humboldt University in Berlin with Walter Vetter, Ernst Hermann Meyer and Hans-Heinz Dräger and from 1954 worked as a music journalist and critic. From 1959 to 1960 he was editor-in-chief of the magazine Musik und Gesellschaft . 1960–1973 he was chief dramaturge at the Komische Oper . In 1973 he took over the management of the Dresden State Opera in the building of the Schauspielhaus and since 1979 also the management of the Saxon State Theater . Seeger brought directors like Harry Kupfer and Ruth Berghaus and conductors like Herbert Blomstedt to Dresden. He made great contributions to the reconstruction of the Semperoper.
