Gerd Uecker

Gerd Uecker (born September 15, 1946 in Munich ) is a German music teacher , music and opera director. From 2003 to 2010 he was director of the Semperoper in Dresden.

Life

After graduating from high school , Uecker studied piano , music education and conducting at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . At the beginning of his professional career, Uecker worked as a solo repetitor at the Cologne Opera from 1969 , where he a. a. met the director Jean-Pierre Ponnelle . In 1970 he was given a teaching position at the Rheinisches Musikkonservatorium in Cologne for opera. In 1973 Uecker was appointed music director and head of the opera department of the Southeast Bavarian City Theater in Passau. In 1979 Uecker came to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where he was director of the musical department. Three years later he took over the management of the director's office. In 1988 he became Artistic Operations Director and Deputy Artistic Director and, in early 1993, interim Artistic Director of the State Opera. From September 1993 he was finally responsible as opera director for the management of the opera house in the Bavarian capital. In January 2000, Uecker received the task of managing the Semper Opera from the 2003/2004 season onwards from the State Minister for Science and Art, Hans Joachim Meyer . From 2005 Uecker was chairman of the German-speaking Opera Conference. He had taken over the office of Sir Peter Jonas , the artistic director of the Bavarian State Opera. Since 2007 Uecker has been chairman of the university council of the Lübeck University of Music . He has u. a. taught in Venice, Beijing and Stuttgart and is honorary professor at the Munich Academy of Music and the Bavarian Theater Academy . He is also a guest lecturer at the European Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Montepulciano and at the Dresden University of Music.
