List of publications

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of publications or the list of publications or the list of publications is usually a complete listing of scientific publications ( publications ) by a person or institution. Publication lists serve in particular for the summary documentation of the own work of scientists.

overview

In the international scientific field, special emphasis is placed on extensive publications on scientific issues and research results. The publications should preferably have been made in internationally renowned specialist journals . The list of publications is used to prove one's own research experience and document scientific excellence. The relevance of academic achievements is often measured using the Hirsch index , which is a measure of the frequency with which an author's publications are cited .

The list of publications is important as an appendix to an academic curriculum vitae or as an appendix to application documents for third-party funding , grants and other teaching and research applications . Also Commemorative usually contain a list of publications of the honored person.

construction

Inverse chronological order (i.e. the most recent entries first) is more common than chronological order. The structure of the individual entries is also not specified. In principle, it is advisable to use one of the formats that are also customary in the publications themselves for reference to literature. But since the same authors appear again and again in publication lists and dates play a prominent role, one often finds other orders of the information, e.g. B .:

  • Title of the publication
  • Information about (co) author
  • Year of publication
  • Place of publication: book, magazine, journal, conference etc.
  • Details such as issue numbering, page numbers
  • Publication reference: publication entry; ISBN etc.

Section specifics

The structure of a list of publications is not standardized. Common conventions differ slightly from subject to subject.

Humanities

A list of publications in humanities subjects is often divided into the main groups monographs (books) , essays (papers) , reviews (book reviews) and editorships (e.g. anthologies).

Natural sciences

In the natural sciences, a distinction is often made between the main groups of original papers , reviews and books / book chapters . Publications in conference proceedings can have a significant (but different) rank because the publication is interdisciplinary or because other forms of publication than just peer-reviewed articles or book publications are to be documented.
