Hans Koch (1966)

Hans Koch (born May 17, 1927 in Liebschwitz ; † June 18, 1986 in Berlin ) was a German cultural scientist and party and cultural functionary of the SED in the GDR . He was considered a hardliner.

Life

Hans Koch graduated from high school in 1944 and then worked as a lathe operator. In 1945/1946 he joined the KPD / SED and in 1946 the FDJ . 1946–1950 he was secretary of the FDJ district leadership Gera and secretary for culture and education of the FDJ state leadership Thuringia . In 1950 he completed a course at the party college and was an aspirant at the Institute for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the SED (IfG) from 1951 to 1956. In 1956 he received his doctorate. phil. with a dissertation on Franz Mehring , followed by his habilitation in 1961 with a thesis on Marxism and aesthetics . Until 1963 he was a lecturer in Marxist cultural and art studies at the IfG.

Since 1963 Koch was a member of the People's Chamber , from 1971 in the Committee for Culture. At the same time he was on the board of the GDR Writers' Association, 1966–1969 research assistant to the Minister of Culture Klaus Gysi , from 1977 director of the Institute for Culture and Art Studies of the Academy of Social Sciences and 1982 member of the Presidium of the Kulturbund .

Koch became a candidate in 1976 and a member of the Central Committee of the SED in 1981, and in May 1986 a member of the Culture Commission at the Politburo of the SED Central Committee . June 17, 1986 Cook left a management meeting of his institute and committed in the Berlin city forest suicide . After the body was found on November 10, 1986, New Germany reported his death eight days later.

He is buried in the “Pergolenweg” grave complex at the Socialist Memorial at the Friedrichsfelde Central Cemetery in Berlin-Lichtenberg .

In 1960 he received the Lessing Prize of the GDR , in 1965 and 1971 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit , in 1974 the National Prize of the GDR and in 1982 the Order of Labor Banner .
