Heinrich Schliemann Medal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heinrich Schliemann Medal was donated in 1990 by the Waren district council on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Heinrich Schliemann , German businessman and pioneer of field archeology .

It was awarded annually for important cultural achievements in the district of Müritz (State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ) (dissolved in 2011), most recently in 2011.

After the district council of the Mecklenburg Lake District successor group discontinued the medal in 2014, it has been awarded by the Heinrich Schliemann Society since 2015 .

Shape and nature of the medal

Until 2011

The Heinrich Schliemann Medal, designed by the graphic artist and engraver Gerhard Stauf , shows a raised portrait of Heinrich Schliemann with the signature "Heinrich Schliemann 1822–1890" on the front and Schliemann's parents' house, the rectory in Ankershagen (now Heinrich-Schliemann-Museum ), above the inscription "Landkreis Müritz" and underneath "Heinrich-Schliemann-Museum Ankershagen".

From 2015

The new medal was designed by the Greifswald sculptor Heinrich Zenichowski .

Award rules

Until 2011

The Heinrich Schliemann Medal can be awarded to both natural and legal persons whose place of residence can also be outside the Müritz district. The district administrator, the district council president, the parliamentary groups and committees of the district council, the cities and municipalities of the district are entitled to make proposals. Proposals can still be submitted by the Heinrich Schliemann Society and all cultural associations active in the district. The proposals for awarding the Heinrich Schliemann Medal are examined by the Culture Committee. The culture committee gives a recommendation to the district committee, which then decides on the award of the medal.

The Heinrich Schliemann Medal was awarded in dignified form at the district's annual reception by the district administrator and the district council president.
